Asha Canady

Asha was born in 1990 and is an English teacher from California. As an undergraduate at Occidental college in Los Angeles, she was inspired to begin writing creatively.Asha earned her teaching credential in secondary English from Loyola Marymount University and spent two years teaching High School English as a Teach for America corps member in her hometown of Sacramento, California. While teaching, Asha also worked with a group of spoken word artists as they developed their art through social critique.

This is Ashas second year participating in the IC Summer School. In 2014, Asha was awarded a grant through the Fulbright Foundation, to live and work in Athens, supporting the English department at Pyschico middle school. After returning to the United States, Asha enrolled at the University of Michigan, where she completed her Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy.
