Scholarships

HAEF, through its Informatics Center Program, is pleased to continue the IC Summer School Scholarship Program. Six (6) full tuition scholarships will be awarded to qualified students who attend Public Schools and lack the financial means to attend the IC Summer School.


Timeline

The Online Scholarship Application Form will open on March 6, 2017, at 8:30 and will close on April 11, 2017, at 16:00 (time is GMT +2, local Athens, Greece time). Interested students should submit their application online during this period.
The results will be announced, by email, on Friday, April 28, 2017.
Successful candidates must complete their IC Summer School registration, online, by Wednesday, May 3, 2017.

Criteria

Students must fulfill the following eligibility criteria to apply for a scholarship:

  • The student attends 1st, 2nd or 3rd grade of Junior High (1η, 2α ή 3η Γυμνασίου), or 1st or 2nd grade of High School (1η, 2α Λυκείου), during the academic year 2016-2017, at a Greek Public School.
  • The student received an average grade above 18.5, at the 1st quarter of 2016-2017 school year
  • The student participates in community/extracurricular activities.
  • The student is proficient in English (First Certificate in English or equivalent examination)
  • The student’s family is facing financial difficulties and has a total gross family annual income (Συνολικό Οικογενειακό Δηλωθέν Εισόδημα) of less than 30.000€ (see required documentation at “Required Documents”).
  • The student has access to accommodation in the greater Athens area and will secure transfer to and from the IC Summer School.
  • The student has not received an IC Summer School tuition scholarship, in previous years.
  • The student has a particular interest in the workshop topics offered at the IC Summer School.

Required Documents

  • Student's 2016-2017, 1st quarter average grade report card issued by the Greek Public School
  • Student’s 2015 -2016 school gradebook issued by the student’s Greek Public School
  • A video up to 3 min in English, uploaded on YouTube and shared privately with the IC Program team. Please see specific instructions about what to include in the video and how to properly upload it here.
  • Recommendation letter from one of the student’s teachers. Please download the Recommendation Letter template in Greek or in English and kindly ask the student’s teacher to read the instructions on the template, complete the form and return it to the student on time.   • Financial Documentation:
    1. Copy of the family’s Income Tax Statement (Οικογενειακό Εκκαθαριστικό Σημείωμα) for 2014 and 2015
    2. Copy of the family's Income Declaration Statement for 2014 and 2015 (Έντυπο Ε1)
    3. Unified Property Ownership Tax Statement (ΕΝΦΙΑ) of both parents for 2016
    4. Real Estate Declaration Statement (Έντυπο E9) of both parents for 2017. –For families with no property, a personal declaration form should be submitted. (Υπεύθυνη Δήλωση Περί Μη Κατοχής Ακίνητης Περιουσίας).

    Please note, total gross family annual income (Συνολικό Οικογενειακό Δηλωθέν Εισόδημα) must be less than 30.000€ to be eligible for a tuition scholarship. In case of single-parent families, divorced/separated parents, or other circumstances, please submit additional appropriate documentation such as custody confirmation for the person who is financially responsible for the student.

  • Copy of the First Certificate in English or equivalent examination results.
  • 200-word essay, submitted with the Online Application Form. Topic of the essay: What do you hope to study and/or what are your future career goals?
  • The  Online Scholarship Application Form.
  • Optional: Certifications, documents or letters confirming student’s community/extracurricular activities. You may attach these documents on your Online Scholarship Application Form.
  • Optional: Honors and/or Awards the student has received. You may attach these documents on your Online Scholarship Application Form.

The online application consists of the following:

  • personal information
  • certifications (English, activities, honors/awards)
  • 200-word essay
  • 3-minute video
  • teacher recommendation letter
  • family financial documentation for 2014 and 2015 (total gross family annual income less than 30.000€ for each year)

 

TheOnline Scholarship Application Form will open on this webpage on March 6, 2017, at 8:30 and will close on April 11, 2017, at 16:00 (time is GMT +2, local Athens, Greece time). All documents mentioned in the "Required Documents" section above must be submitted at the same time with the Online Scholarship Application form, so students and parents should prepare the documents before starting to fill out the Online Scholarship Application.

Evaluation Process

Online scholarship applications will be evaluated by the IC Summer School, Scholarship Application Committee of the Hellenic American Educational Foundation.

Only applications that meet all criteria will be eligible for the tuition scholarship. Eligible applications will be evaluated and sorted by the ICSS Scholarship Committee.

The eligibility criteria established by HAEF, are based on academic merit and financial need. The ICSS Scholarship Committee will sort the applications and select the students who will receive the tuition scholarships based on the following criteria:

  • School grades as defined in "Required Documents"
  • Teacher recommendation letter
  • English language level as required
  • The 3-minute video
  • Student’s community and extracurricular activities
  • Eligible Family Tax Return statements of 2014 and 2015 (total gross family annual income less than 30.000€ for each year)

 

It’s at the ICSS Scholarship Committee’s discretion to grant or not grant tuition scholarships, after evaluating and sorting the eligibility criteria for each candidate application. In case of a tie between eligible candidates, socio-economic criteria will be taken into consideration during the selection process.
