Lego Mindstorms EV 3 Laboratory

This workshop uses the material suggested by Lego education to introduce robotics to students in an interesting and engaging learning process. Through this workshop, students will practice and develop further their problem solving skills using a Project Based Learning method. Students will have a brief description of the project that they have to build and the appropriate guidelines on how they will be able to accomplish the task that they are given. All these projects are authentic and combine the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. An important element about this workshop is that all the students will practice and develop further soft skills like teamwork, communication, collaboration and creativity. All teams will present their final project and explain the function of their robot.

Day by Day Schedule

Day 1
Introduction to robot design, EV 3 construction techniques, sensors motors, Building the Educator vehicle

Day 2
Programming environment, brick programming, Action (Green Area) programming blocks, Orange Menu (Flow Control), First missions, testing the educator vehicle

Day 3
Data logging, First team project The Line Following Robot

Day 4
Second team project, Robot arena Mission: Find / Grab / Carry/ Store Advanced programming techniques, Accuracy, Different interfaces

Day 5
Team projects

Project Description

All teams will be required to deliver and present the abilities of a different robot. 

Learning Objectives

In this workshop, students will learn to design a solution for a given problem as a draft hardware and software design. They will learn to implement this solution and construct a Lego Mindstorms robot. Students will learn to program basic behaviors of a robot. By the end of this workshop, students will be able to design, construct program solutions for real- life problems using robots. Students will be able to test and refine their program and Lego construction.
