Women’s Entrepreneurship Workshop on the occasion of International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day on March 8th gave rise to an opportunity for Athens College and Psychico College to co-organize a special event with the Embassy of the United States in Athens entailing a Workshop on Women’s Entrepreneurship.

Ms. Suzanne Lawrence, the U.S. Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission, addressed the audience and spoke about this year’s “Be Bold for Change” theme and about the importance of entrepreneurship in this day and age, particularly as it regards the role of women.

In his opening speech, Prof. Spiro Pollalis, President of Athens College – Psychico College, stressed the need for women to defend their beliefs and rights and to renounce the obstacles that stand in their way for a more just society.

Following the speakers’ introductory remarks, female students of the College took part in a Workshop led by Ms. Ioanna Fotopoulou, entrepreneur and co-founder of the company Simple Rocks, aimed at reinforcing the idea of entrepreneurship as an instrument for equal rights and equal aspirations.  The students, working in groups, created new business ideas that can be realized through collaboration and teamwork.
