HAEF Distinctions at World Schools Debating Championship 2017

Students Marianna Empeoglou (PC-IB) and Stelios Skavdis (PC-IB), who just recently graduated from the College, were on the 5-member team that represented Greece at the World Schools Debating Championship, held in Indonesia from August 1st  to10th, 2017. The Greek team took 15th place among the 52 nations that participated, reaching the semi-finals.

In addition to the team’s fine standing, Marianna received the important distinction of 9th best speaker in the English as a Second Language category.  The team debated against nations from around the globe, winning significant rounds against strong teams from countries with a long-standing tradition in debate, such as Scotland and Wales.  Two College Debate and Forensics coaches, Kallina Mpasli and Theodoros Ntounias, prepared and accompanied the team on this mission.
