Psychico College High School’s ‘Young Entrepreneurs Club’ Brings Home 2nd Prize

Psychico College High School’s Young Entrepreneurs Club won 2nd Prize in the PanHellenic Competition for “Best Virtual Company for the Year 2017,” for the product developed by their virtual company “Bac Bake.”  One hundred twenty (120) schools from around Greece took part in the competition that is organized annually by the Junior Achievement Organization/Association Youth Entrepreneurship (JA-YE).

It is worth noting that IB1 student Athanasia Vovou, member of the virtual business “Bac Bake,” was presented with a Leadership Award, a distinction that is awarded to only two students at the event.

The Club’s students drew inspiration, designed and manufactured the Bac Bake, the first disinfection machine for individual use that can be used on both electronic and non-electronic devices.  This tool provides protection against bacteria and viruses that gather on surfaces, such as cell phones and computer keyboards. It operates with a 9W sterilization lamp (UV_C) and the ergonomics of its design guarantee excellent results in minutes.  According to recent research, UV rays are the most promising technology for surface disinfection and more.  The Bac Bake is a unique product suitable for home, school, or office and provides a protective shield from bacterial and viral infections found on shared surfaces.

Every year since 2008, members of Psychico College High School’s Young Entrepreneurs Club establish a “virtual company” through which they create innovative products that they themselves design, manufacture, promote and sell.  Among other things, they are afforded an opportunity to understand the role that businesses should have in social an environmental matters.  Students develop awareness of corporate and civic responsibility and realize what business ethics means.  Hence, profits earned by each year’s virtual company are donated to charitable organizations as well as the College Scholarship Fund.

Psychico College High School’s Young Entrepreneurs Club has repeatedly won awards in the PanHellenic Competition for “Best Virtual Company,” organized by the Junior Achievement Organization/Association Youth Entrepreneurship (JA Greece), as well as at other events and competitions such as, the Trade Fair, the PanCommercial Exhibition “Trade Fair,” the PanHellenic Student Competition for Digital Innovation and “E-nnovation Junior.” It should be noted that last year the Club’s members had also won 2nd prize, from amongst 100 competitors, for the cell (mobile) phone app, named Marathon Application – MAPP, developed by their virtual company.
