The Hellenic-American Educational Foundation (HAEF) was founded in 1925 as a non-profit educational institution for Greek students. It is comprised of two sister schools: Athens College, founded in 1925, and Psychico College, founded in 1980. Today, each of the Colleges has an elementary school, a middle school and a high school. Both Colleges follow the curriculum as prescribed by the Greek Ministry of Education. At the end of grade 10 (1st year of High School), however, students from either College may opt to apply for enrollment in the two-year full diploma International Baccalaureate Program which is administered by Psychico College. The Schools of the HAEF are recognized as being among the leading institutions in Greece, not only because of a tradition of providing a high quality education, but also because the College defines itself through two interwoven priorities: a rigorous academic curriculum and a wide range of opportunities beyond the classroom. An education at HAEF’sSchools plays a key role in shaping a student’s character and providing the foundation for a productive life. It is not unfair to say that the Schools of the HAEF have played a unique and influential role in the history of Greece in the 20th century. The Schools’students come from varied walks of life. The HAEF’sneed-blind admissions policy and strong scholarship program, unique in Greece and very unusual in Europe, assure this diversity in backgrounds. In summation, a disciplined approach to learning, involvement inextracurricular and athletic activities, and the expectation of good character are fundamental to an education at the HAEF Schools asthey prepare students to assume leadership positions in an ever-changing world.
