Update regarding Absences and Extension of Precautionary Measures

Following last week’s closure of the school units on the Psychico campus as a precautionary measure, all College school units will resume normal operation on Monday, March 9, 2020.  Furthermore, the 14-day self-quarantine period recommended to students who travelled to Italy comes to an end within the week.  Therefore, pursuant to instructions from the National Public Health Organization (EODY), students who have not developed any symptoms will return to school life.

Regarding recorded absences during this period, attached please find the Ministerial Directive dated March 5, 2020 (in Greek).  In summary, absences from school by students who remain home up to fourteen (14) days following their return from trips to areas afflicted with SARS-CoV-2 (as listed on the National Public Health Organization – EODY website), will be recorded, but will not count towards the total allowable absences for promotion/graduation. This concession will be granted provided the relevant travel documents are submitted upon the student’s return to school.

Α. Extension of Precautionary Measures

Following previous precautionary measures aimed at reducing large congregations and the potential spread of infection, an Inter-School Committee comprised of the Directors of the seven (7) school units met, together with the Co-Director of Athens College and Coordinator of the HAEF School Units, to discuss recommendations proposed by the HAEF physician and supported by the College President.  It was decided that effective immediately and until further notice, student events at which parents and visitors were traditionally invited and present, shall take place without the presence of parents/visitors.  Instead, only students, their teachers and, as necessary, collaborators/judges will be present.

Hence, until further notice, the in-house Elementary School swim meets, GAVRIILEIA and DELTEIA, as well as the final round of Oratory Competitions will take place without the presences of parents.

Β Sanitization of HAEF facilities

Please be advised that the Admissions Exams for academic year 2020-2021 were held as scheduled on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Bodossakeio School.  Parents who waited for their children were hosted in the reception area of Latseio School.  Both Elementary School buildings in Kantza were disinfected on Sunday, March 8, 2020 by certified disinfection companies (this is the second disinfection within one week).

We also remind you that during the three-day holiday weekend of 2/29-3/2/2020, all the buildings on the Psychico campus were disinfected and thereafter remained shut as school was suspended for one week in accordance with a Joint Ministerial Decision.

Lastly, the school transport companies inform us that all buses used to transport our students have been disinfected and are wiped down each day using antiseptic cleansers. Furthermore, buses will be disinfected at regular intervals.

Hence, effective Monday, March 9th our students will be in a perfectly sanitized environment.  Please help us to keep it decontaminated by keeping at home children who display any symptom of illness.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Yours truly,

Apostolos Athanasopoulos
Co-Director of Athens College
Coordinator of the HAEF School Units
