Kindergarten Visit

On February 23rd, the “J.M. Carras” Kindergarten’s “Sea Bream” class visited the Library.  The purpose of the visit was to familiarize our preschoolers with the “big” Library on the College campus, as well as to select books about planets that would help their research on this topic.  During their visit, the children watched some videos about planets, wandered through the book stacks as they played a game of “treasure hunt” for hidden pictures related to space and planets, and concluded by selecting books to borrow from the Library for their research project.
In return, the children offered the Central Library illustrations of a fairytale about a trip to space and later sent drawings depicting their impressions from their visit to the Library.
Exposure to the Central Library’s materials was of great interest for both the students and teachers.

IB Year 1 Visual Arts/Hybrid Lino-Prints

Year 1 IB visual arts students began the project by collaborating on a Surrealistic 'exquisite corpse' drawing to create unusual juxtapositions. They continued by investigating hybrids from different cultures and times. They then developed their own ideas by combining their drawings of different types of animals and creatures. Inspired by a book of hybrid lino-prints entitled Monstrorum Historia, students made a lino -cut design which was carved out of Lino and then printed using an etching press. The students printed first with back ink on a white background and subsequently they experimented with different backgrounds.
