Athens College Elementary School 6th Grade Visit  

On Thursday, May 11, 2017, as is customary at this time of the academic year, the established visit to the Library by 6th grade students from Athens College Elementary School once again took place.  The Bodossakeio students were given a tour of the Library and a printed library layout on which they positioned the collections.  Additionally, they were introduced to the library’s webpages and informed about the library’s operation and services.

Psychico College Junior High School 8th Grade Literary Journeys

Within the framework of the Psychico College Junior High School 8th grade activity “Literary Journeys,” author Z. Syrivli spoke to three sections of students about how to write a book, based on her personal experience.

On March 8th, a delegation from the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) visited the Library within the context of the organization’s preparations for its annual conference in 2019 and Athens’ candidacy to host the event.

The conference is the largest in the field of Library and Information Services and is attended by approximately 4,000 conferees.

Amongst those visiting the Library were Ms. Gloria Perez-Salmeron (IFLA President-Elect), Ms. Josche Ouwerkerk (Manager, Conferences and business relations, Managing Director, IFLA Holding BV), Mr. Giorgos Glossiotis (Vice President of the Board of Directors, Association of Greek Librarians and Information Scientists - EEBEP) and Ms. Eva Semertzaki, (IFLA contact person for EEBEP, Head Librarian at the Bank of Greece Library).

On Tuesday, February 7, 2017, during big break (12:45-13:25), Athens College High School 12th graders Giorgos Leivadas and Christos Chatzis interpreted jazz compositions on saxophone, accompanied by Stefanos Tsokakis on piano

Visit by Illustrator Rania Varvaki 

Rania Varvaki, illustrator of Jules Verne’s book “Around the World in 80 Days” (pub. Metaixmio), visited the Athens College – Psychico College Library to talk to Psychico College Junior High School 7th graders about the art of illustration. Following her presentation, the students toured the illustrator’s exhibition where they viewed original works up close, noticing details and identifying differences from those in the book.

October 2016

On October 19, 2016, second year students of the “J.M. Carras” Kindergarten visited the Library.   The purpose of their visit was to listen to the narratives of storyteller Stelios Pelasgos.  Mr. Pelasgos began reviving of the art of oral literature (storytelling) in Greece in 1991.  Since then he has traveled throughout Greece and Europe giving storytelling performances of folk tales, fairy tales, legends and contemporary literary pieces.
