Israeli Students Visit the College

Athens College High School organized two events this week dedicated to Israel ahead of our students upcoming Expedition to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, scheduled to take place from February 27th to March 3rd.

On Tuesday, February 19, 2019, the Ambassador of Israel to Greece, Ms. Irit Ben-Abba, together with the Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission, Ms. Sawsan Hasson, visited the School.  They met in Choremi Auditorium with students who will participate in this year’s Expedition.  During their speech, they presented a brief history of Israel, touching on personal experiences, and then answered students’ questions.

Ms. Titina Matsa, responsible for Academic Affairs and Communication at the Embassy, noted that Israel offers opportunities and promise to young people.  For her part, the Ambassador expressed hope that our students' visit to her country will be the beginning of cooperation and student exchanges, particularly in light of the long-standing friendship between Greece and Israel. Mr. Christos Konstantopoulos, Director of Athens College High School, preluded their speeches, mentioning the great significance of student exchanges between the two nations.

Following the Ambassador’s visit, on Thursday, February 21, 2019, student-members of Israel’s Young Ambassadors Club visited the College, accompanied by their teachers, the Young Ambassadors Club’s President, Mr. Yitzhak Eldan, Mrs. Sawsan Hasson and Ms. Titina Matsa.  In a special event that was held in Choremi Auditorium, College students welcomed their Israeli counterparts and spoke to them about the College, showing a video of the School’s various activities.

In return, the Israeli students gave a presentation on the two-year Young Ambassadors Program in which they are involved.  They also showed the College students a video about Israel, telling them that they look forward to welcoming them in their country.

Mr. Christos Konstantopoulos, Director of Athens College High School, offered a greeting speech in which he welcomed Israel’s Young Ambassadors.  He also pointed out that their visit coincided with another important event that took place at our School one week earlier: that of the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Museum. He went on to express his hope that the Young Ambassadors’ visit, as well as our students’ upcoming trip to Israel, will mark the beginning of cooperation and student exchanges between our School and Israel as a way of imparting and preserving our two respective cultures.
