Environmental Club Participates in International “KinderDocs” Documentaries Festival

On Thursday, October 17, 2019, members of last year’s Environmental Club at Athens College Elementary School – Kimonas Souravlas, Alexandros Giannousakis, Theodoros Chatzimpeis, Eleni Kampani, Vivian Karatzaferi and Nefeli Moraitini – together with the club’s advisor, English teacher Ms. Marianthi Giannakopoulou, took part in the International Documentaries Festival, held at the Benaki Museum.

The aim of the festival was for participants to discover the magic of documentary art and to try new ways of communicating.  Every film that was screened provoked thought and gave rise to creative dialogue among those in the audience. The club members participated in the festival further to an invitation from the organizers, which was prompted by the 1st prize that our students won with their photo of the composting activity in last year’s International Photojournalism Competition.

Our students watched the documentary, “Inventing Tomorrow,” on the environment and answered questions from journalists and children about their involvement and experience in the “Young Reporters for the Environment” network.

Our school’s participation has received very positive reviews, with the hope that our activities to protect the environment will continue with the same zeal.
