Artist of the Month

At “John M. Carras” Kindergarten, academic year 2018-19 is dedicated to Architecture.  Parents of Kindergarten students who are architects will visit the School where, in collaboration with our educators, will propose and design activities based on STEAM that correspond to topics on which students are working during the year.

At the same time, children will engage in integrative thinking, becoming familiar with observation, analysis, design and the use of different materials.   Through a variety of stimuli and the valuable knowledge imparted by parents-architects, our young learners will exercise their free expressive and complex thinking skills and will enhance their creativity and ingenuity.

During the month of December, parents of our school who are architects visited Kindergarten sections. They spoke to our students about the profession of architect, played with special concepts - such as light and shadow, scale and proportions - and created small architectural structures with the children

In the last activity dedicated to Architecture, which took place in April, students designed their idea and started to experiment with a variety of materials.  By ‘playing’ with these different materials, they discovered their properties.  Then, with help from parents-architects / parent-civil engineers, they constructed their ideas using S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) principles
