Special Olympics Hellas Basketball Games at College

Within the context of Special Olympics European Basketball Week, Special Olympic Hellas, in conjunction with HAEF’s Department of Physical Education, organized Unified 3x3 basketball games that took place on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 in Aggelikouseio Indoor Gymnasium and Chandreio Athletic Center.  The mixed teams that competed against one another were comprised of Special Olympics athletes, Korydallos 5th General High School students, Hellenic Police League players, Koropi Unified Vocational Junior High – High School students, Rehabilitation and Special Education Association “Panagia Evangelistria” members and Athens College – Psychico College High School students.

The games took place under the umbrella of the “Play Unified – Learn Unified” program, which is approved by the Ministry of Education.


Welcoming speeches were given by the President of Special Olympics Hellas, Ambassador Dionysios Kodellas, Athens College President, Mr. Richard Jackson, and General Secretary of Greece Police Athletic League (PAL), Police Sergeant Rigas Oustapasides.

The voluntary contributions and organizational support offered by all member of the “A” Association, the Hellenic Red Cross and the Attica Basketball Referees Association were crucial.

Sofia Drakoulogkona recited the Special Olympics Athlete’s Oath.   The College's entire Junior High School 8th grade class attended the events.
