45th Gavriileia 2019

The 45th in-house Athens College – Psychico College Junior High and High School swim meets, known as “GAVRIILEIA” in memory of John A. Gabriel, were held on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at the “Alexandra Prokopiou” Swimming Center and “John A. Gabriel” Swimming Pool. Mr. Nikolaos Tsavliris, President of the HAEF Board of Directors, declared the games open. 

The Schools’ Administrators, members of the Athletic Advisory Committee and parents were in attendance.

Based on international scoring standards, 7th grader Aggeliki Smyrniou, with a performance time of 28”09 in the 50m freestyle, and 12th grader Nikolaos Lanaras, with a performance of time of 24”50 in the 50m freestyle, were named the games’ best female and male athletes respectively.

New Gavriileia records were set in the following events:

  • 50m Breaststroke, Maria Kefalogianni, 9th grade, 35”00.
  • 50m Breaststroke, Anna Matsiota, 10th grade, 36”09.
  • 50m Freestyle, Aggeliki Smyrniou, 7th grade, 28”09.
  • 50m Freestyle, Ioulia-Anna Kontoni, 10th grade, 28”46.
  • 100m Freestyle, Marios Atzinas, 9th grade, 57”70.

With a Cumulative Score of 72.5 points, High School 10th grade took 1st place in the general standing.

Once the games were over, official timing took place during which the following College records were set: 

  • 100m Freestye, Aggeliki Smyrniou, 7th grade, 1’00”69.
  • 100m Breaststroke, Maria Kefalogianni, 9th grade, 1’16”31.
  • 200m Breaststroke, Natalia Stroggyli, 8th grade, 2’47”21.
