43rd Gavriileia 2017

The 43rd in-house Athens College – Psychico College Junior High and High School swim meets, known as “GAVRIILEIA” in memory of John A. Gabriel, were held on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the “Alexandra Prokopiou” Swimming Center and “John A. Gabriel” Swimming Pool. Professor Spyro N. Pollalis, President of Athens College – Psychico College, declared the games open.


Members of the HAEF Somateio (Association), the Schools’ Administrators, members of the Athletic Advisory Committee and parents were in attendance.


Based on international scoring standards, 11th grader Eleni-Maria Stefanou, with a performance of 01’02”74 in the 100m freestyle, and 11th grader Georgios Dimitratos, with a performance of 24”17 in the 50m freestyle, were named the games’ best female and male athletes respectively.


New Gavriileia records were set in the following events:


  • 50m Freestyle, Georgios Dimitratos, 11th grade, 24”17, which is also a new College record
  • 50m Backstroke, Achilleas Chionis, 10th grade, 29”23, which is also a new College record
  •  50m Butterfly, Iason-Panteleimon Santixis, 12th grade, 27”07
  • 4x50m Freestyle Relay, 12th graders I. Santixis, F. Avlonitis, N. Tzougkarakis and E. Manios, 1’45”24, which is also a new College record
  • 4x50m Freestyle Relay, D. Spentzou, C. Daskalaki, K. Atzina, and I. Kontoni, 2’00”01   


With a Cumulative Score of 72 points, High School 10th grade took 1st place.


Once the games were over, official timing took place during which the following College record was set:  in the 200m Freestyle by Achilleas Chionis (2’00”26).
